Leveling & XP System
Reward active members with XP and levels. Set up level roles, tune the XP rate, and give your community a leaderboard to climb.
Overview
The leveling system rewards members for chatting. As they earn XP they level up and can unlock roles you choose. XP and levels are kept per server, so a member starts fresh in every server they join.
- XP for chatting, with a one-minute cooldown so spam earns nothing extra
- An XP multiplier from 0.25x to 3x
- Automatic role rewards at the levels you pick

- A web leaderboard for the whole server

Earning XP
Every message earns 15 to 25 XP, at most once per minute per member. Messages sent during that minute still count towards the message total on the member's profile card but earn no XP, so flooding a channel gets nobody ahead.
The server's XP multiplier scales every gain. At 2x a message earns 30 to 50 XP, at 0.5x it earns 7 to 12.
Chatting is the only way to earn XP. Time in voice channels and server boosting do not add any. You can also stop XP in places where it does not belong:
- No-XP channels: messages there earn nothing, which suits bot and spam channels
- No-XP roles: members with any of these roles earn nothing
XP Formula
The XP needed to go from one level to the next follows this formula:
XP = 5 × (level²) + 50 × level + 100

Reaching level 1 takes 100 XP, about five messages.
Level Roles
Automatically assign roles when members reach certain levels. This is a great way to reward active members with special perks!
Setting Up Level Roles
Level roles are configured on the dashboard. Open your server, go to Levels, and add a reward under Role Rewards: pick the level and the role to grant when a member reaches it.
The Remove previous role on level up option decides how rank roles add up:
- Off: members keep every rank role they have earned
- On: members only ever hold their current rank role
Example Setup

Natsumi's own role has to sit above every reward role in your server's role list, or Discord will not let it hand them out.
Level-up Messages
When a member levels up, Natsumi posts a message in your announcement channel, or in the channel they were chatting in if you have not picked one. Write your own text with these variables:

The default is GG {user_mention}, you just advanced to level {level}!. Role rewards are still handed out when level-up messages are switched off.
Leaderboard
/leaderboard replies with a link to your server's leaderboard on natsumi.app, which ranks every member by level and XP. It only works while leveling is switched on.
Importing from MEE6
Moving over from MEE6? The Import from MEE6 section on the Levels page copies your members' existing levels and XP into Natsumi. MEE6's leaderboard has to be public for your server, and you can choose how many members to import and whether to overwrite XP members have already earned with Natsumi.
Configuration
Leveling is configured entirely from the dashboard, under Levels. There is no slash command for these settings.

The same page controls the look of the rank card and the leaderboard: background image, accent, text, border, progress bar and badge colours.
