Birthdays

Never miss a celebration. Members register their birthday once, and Natsumi announces it in your chosen channel, with optional age display, custom messages, and upcoming-birthday lists.

Overview

  • Automatic birthday announcements in a channel of your choice
  • Custom announcement templates, with or without the member's age
  • Privacy first: members can hide their age and birth year
  • Upcoming birthdays list so nobody gets missed

For Members

Register your birthday with /birthday set. Use MM/DD if you'd rather not share your birth year, or MM/DD/YYYY to include your age in announcements.

Set Your Birthday (no year)

/birthday set date:06/15

Set Your Birthday (with year)

/birthday set date:06/15/2000

Prefer to keep your age private but still share the year? Toggle it with /birthday hide-age. You can remove your birthday entirely with /birthday forget.

For Admins

Configure the birthday system from the dashboard's Birthdays page: choose the announcement channel and customize the announcement message templates (one with age, one without).

Each announcement pings the birthday member and posts a card underneath with the greeting, a gift icon, and the time. Natsumi adds the first party-popper reaction so members can join in.

You can also choose a birthday ping role. It is mentioned at the top of every announcement, and members give themselves the role, or drop it again, with the Birthday notifications button under the channel's sticky note. The role must be mentionable unless Natsumi has the Mention Everyone permission, and it must sit below Natsumi's own role so it can be handed out.

Admins can also manage birthdays on behalf of members with /birthday set-user and /birthday unset-user.

Only people who are still in the server are announced. When a member leaves, their birthday is removed along with the rest of their data for that server, and Natsumi double-checks membership right before every announcement, so someone who left while the bot was offline is skipped as well. If they come back, they simply set their birthday again.

Example Announcement Template

Today is a special day!
Please wish {user} a Happy Birthday, they turn **{age}** today!

Channel Sticky & Announcements

Two extras keep the birthday channel useful between celebrations, both configured on the dashboard's Birthdays page.

Channel sticky note. Natsumi keeps a short note at the bottom of the birthday channel with a Set my birthday button, so members can register without knowing any command or date format. Pressing it opens a small form asking for the month, day, and optionally the birth year. While a birthday ping role is set, a second Birthday notifications button toggles that role for whoever presses it. The note is re-posted after every message so it is always the very last thing in the channel, and the old copy is removed so only one note exists at a time. It is always present whenever birthdays are enabled and a birthday channel is set. The only thing you can change is the wording.

New birthday announcements. When a member registers a birthday, Natsumi posts a single line in the birthday channel with the date and a countdown, so everyone can see when it is coming up. The countdown is a live Discord timestamp, so it keeps counting down on its own, and the member is named without being pinged. It never includes an age or birth year, only the day itself.
